Instagram Work From Home Jobs in India: Real Options vs Fake “Ghar Baithe” Offers

By Influish Editorial Team · Published · Last updated

Short answer

Real Instagram work-from-home jobs exist in India. They include social media management, Reels editing, caption writing, comment moderation, UGC videos and trend research, and they pay for work you deliver to a traceable brand, agency or creator. Offers that pay you to like, follow or watch posts, then ask for a deposit, are task scams. Delhi Police reported a case like this in March 2023. A real employer never charges you to start.

Are Instagram work-from-home jobs real?

Yes, but the real ones are ordinary jobs that happen to involve Instagram. Brands need people to plan posts and answer comments. Creators need editors and writers. Agencies need people who can spot what is rising. Much of this can be done remotely, and roles are advertised as full-time, part-time, freelance or internships. What these jobs have in common is a deliverable, such as an edited Reel, a week of captions or a trend report. Your pay depends on that work being good, not on how many posts you liked.

The fake versions copy the vocabulary (“Instagram job”, “work from home”, “part time”) but replace the work with clicks. If what you are asked to do could be done by a bot, such as liking, following or watching, it is not the job.

What do fake Instagram work-from-home offers look like?

On 21 March 2023, BW PoliceWorld reported that Delhi Police had arrested two people for cheating job seekers with fake work-from-home schemes advertised on Instagram. According to the report, the complainant saw an Instagram post about “earning huge money daily working from home”. He was sent to a WhatsApp number and a website and told to complete tasks for commission. He could withdraw his first small amount, but larger sums were blocked and he was asked to pay a “government tax”. He lost more than ₹9 lakh.

In December 2023 the Ministry of Home Affairs said these frauds typically start with targeted digital ads using phrases such as “ghar baithe job” (work from home) aimed at people looking for part-time work, according to the IANS report carried by The News Minute. Business Today reported in November 2024 that a woman in Udupi, Karnataka, clicked an Instagram post advertising jobs and lost ₹1.94 lakh after being given “simple online tasks” on WhatsApp.

  • Pay per click: “Like 3 posts, earn ₹150.” Real jobs pay for deliverables.
  • Move to Telegram or WhatsApp: the “HR” or “mentor” only talks in a private group.
  • Instant selection: “You are selected” before any test, sample or interview.
  • Any fee: registration, training, kit, “ID activation”, deposit or withdrawal “tax”.
  • OTP or banking requests: no employer needs your OTP, UPI PIN or net-banking password.

The full five-stage pattern is explained in how the reels task scam works.

Where are genuine Instagram work-from-home jobs posted?

  • The employer’s own website or careers page, or a post on its verified Instagram or LinkedIn account.
  • Established job portals. Even there, confirm the listing on the company’s own channels before you share documents.
  • Agencies and creators you already follow, who often post “we’re hiring” with an email at their own domain.

Unsolicited WhatsApp, SMS or Telegram messages from numbers you don’t know are not a job source. To check a specific company step by step (website, MCA record, domain age, email domain), use how to verify a job offer before you apply (our sister guide, Viral Jobs India).

How do I get my first genuine Instagram work-from-home job?

  1. Pick one role from the table above, not all six.
  2. Make two or three samples: edits, captions or a one-page trend note on a niche you know.
  3. Apply through official channels and expect a test or interview. A paid trial task is normal. A fee is not.
  4. Get the terms in writing: pay, hours, duration and who owns the content.

The skills that make those samples convincing are covered in from scrolling to skills: what employers pay for. Before replying to any offer, run it through the red-flag checklist.

What should I do if I already paid?

Call 1930, the national cybercrime helpline listed by the Ministry of Home Affairs’ I4C, as soon as possible. File a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in, tell your bank, and keep screenshots, numbers, UPI IDs and transaction references. Do not pay anyone who offers to “recover” the money for a fee.

Frequently asked questions

Are Instagram work from home jobs real?

Yes, some are. Brands, agencies and creators hire people to manage accounts, edit Reels, write captions, moderate comments and research trends, often remotely. A real one comes from an organisation you can trace, includes a selection step and written terms, and never asks you to pay. An offer that pays per like or follow and then asks for a deposit is a task scam.

Can I earn from home just by liking Instagram posts?

No genuine employer pays you simply to like, follow or watch. Indian police and government warnings describe ‘like and earn’ offers as the opening step of task-based fraud: small payouts first, then deposits that are never returned.

Where are genuine Instagram work-from-home jobs posted?

On the employer’s own website or careers page, its verified social accounts, and established job portals. Even a portal listing should be checked against the company’s own channels before you share documents.

How much do Instagram work-from-home jobs pay?

We do not publish pay figures without a verifiable source. Pay depends on the role, the employer, your experience and whether the work is full-time, part-time, freelance or an internship. A written offer should state the pay before you start.
